Organic light emitting devices
A few years ago, a new class of materials, so called organic
semiconductors, was identified as a promising alternative to
conventional semiconductors for optoelectronic and general lighting
applications. The main research activity in this field at the moment
is the development of OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays,
which promise very thin, flexible displays with low power
consumption. Though there are still technological problems, first
products are allready available, e.g. a digital camera by Kodak, which
employs and OLED instead of a conventional LC (liquid crystal)
display.
